After a washout on Saturday, Holton were raring to play their only match of the tour on Sunday morning. After a warm-up football match on the seafront which constituted ASB in Eastbourne the team headed for Hove for a our match against Palmers.

Palmers agreed to play a 12 vs 12 match and won the toss. They elected to bat in the glorious sunshine that was beating down on the good quality track.  Binoy and Kiran opened the bowling and limited the Palmers’ openers at the start of their innings. They only had 11 runs on the board when Binoy had an LBW shout that convinced the officious umpire to raise a finger. Very soon after Kiran had his first scalp when Thorne hit out straight at Simon Littlewood who calmly took the catch. Graham Hawkins came into the attack and frustrated the opposition, with Mahesh bowling from the other end. Cornwell the Palmers no.3 had started to root himself to the crease and a decent partnership was forming….until Graham was rewarded for his excellent spell and forced a good catch from Mahesh to see off Cornwell. Graham quickly dealt with the Palmers ‘ no. 4 bowling him for 14 runs.

However the Palmer’s middle order were proving stubborn with left hander Scotcher scoring quick runs. Mahesh dealt with Potter who hit out only to force Kiran into a great catch. When I came into the attack I struggled to contain Scotcher but managed to get a ball to swing back at him after drinks to bowl him on 20 runs. Soon after Graham Hawkins took another wicket, bowling another unplayable delivery and hitting the stumps. Binoy and Kiran returned to bowl and clear up Palmers’ tail. Binoy’s second wicket asked even more of Kiran’s fielding than his first catch; he plucked the ball out of the air whilst diving for the cameras. Kiran then sliced through the rest of the tail and Neil Robinson finished off the Palmer innings bowling Dixon with a stylish end to the Holton attack: 150 all out.
